According to two anonymous sources cited in a recent Reuters report, Ubisoft shareholders are currently considering looking for a buyout for the company. The report also claims that the Guillemot family, which is the largest and founding shareholder, want to retain control in the buyout but Tencent the second largest, is undecided on increasing stake in the company. Several minority shareholders have pushed for a sale as the company’s stocks have reduced in price over the year. “We remain committed to making decisions in the best interests of all of our stakeholders” a spokesman for Ubisoft said. “In this context, as we have already indicated, the Company is also reviewing all its strategic options.”
Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws struggled to meet sales expectations despite the positive critical reviews the game received. According to a past report, the company’s stocks dropped significantly as a result of this. The game also only sold a million copies in the first month of its release.
