Ubisoft Tom Clancy Mash Up ‘Elite Squad’ To End

Ubisoft

announced that its mobile mash-up game entitled Elite Squad will be shutting off its servers this October. This was announced through a blog post on the website entitled “The Story Ends”, with Ubisoft stating “It is with a great deal of sadness that we are announcing we will no longer be releasing new content for Elite Squad.”

A new update for the game was released today, marking the final update that the game will receive before going dark later this year. The blog post went on to say “This was not an easy decision, but after exploring multiple options with our teams, we came to the conclusion that it was no longer sustainable.”

If you did not know there was already a mash-up game featuring the Tom Clancy roster, you are probably not alone. The game was launched in August 2020, being announced the year before at E3. The game saw characters from Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, and The Division, with the idea of all these characters on a super team of government operatives. All of this was done with a far more cartoony style that fans of the games might be used to.

While the blog post makes it pretty obvious that the core reason the game is being on shelves is the lack of players, there is another reason now might be the right time to scrap it. Recently the studio announced a new free-to-play addition to the Tom Clancy universe, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. Similarly, this will draw from multiple games under the banner for their factions. While not coming to mobile, this avenue feels more in line with the core audience of fans.

Tom Clancy’s XDefiant will enter early testing in August, two months before Elite Squad‘s final curtain call. It will be available on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4 system, PlayStation®5 system, PC, and Google Stadia.
