Creeping up to the final planned DLC for last year’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft unveiled the new Story Creator Mode to allow creative players a chance to curate their very own quest line. However, it seems – like with any user made feature – creators have found out how to produce missions that allow players to farm large amounts of XP instead of using the mode how it’s intended.
Ubisoft has taken action against the XP farming abuse and plans to introduce various methods of countering these otherwise lifeless user-created missions. An update issued by Ubisoft goes into detail as to why the studio wants to rid the creative community of these farming missions.
“Story Creator Mode was designed to be a tool for players to let their creativity and imagination run free as they build their very own Stories to share with others, using a modified version of the tools our own designers used to develop the quests in the game. However, since the launch of the beta we have noticed an increasing flow of “farming quests,” that exploit the tool to get large amounts of XP. These exploits risk jeopardizing the overall quality, integrity, and purpose of Story Creator Mode and results in less visibility for the creative, interesting and frankly fantastic community stories that have been published.” – Ubisoft
It appears that once the update hits players will no longer be able to find these farming missions in the “Trending” or “Hall of Fame” recommendations tab when searching for a user created mission. Along with this, players who still put their efforts in creating these stories intentionally will be sanctioned and any created stories reported will be tucked away, hidden from sight.
While the amount of XP grinding needed later on in the game is a bit of a hassle, flooding something unique like the Story Creator Mode with endless XP farming stories does seem to ruin its intentions. Also, Ubisoft might be a bit hard-pressed considering they’re offering quick leveling and XP gains as microtransactions and these XP missions completely negate these options.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s last announced DLC – the final episode of the Fate of Atlantis series – is set to release on July 16, 2019.
