Maxime Béland has officially resigned amid the abuse and assault allegations against him. Ubisoft has been one of the targets of a recent wave of allegations of abuse in the video games industry.

Back in late June, Ubisoft acknowledged the allegations and announced that Maxime Béland and Tommy François were placed on administrative leave due to current allegations of misconduct against women in which, they along several other executives of the company have been accused.

Ubisoft informed GamesIndustry.biz, that Maxime Béland’s resignation was “effective immediately”. Ubisoft will continue investigating the allegations made against him.

Maxime Béland returned Ubisoft in early 2020, appointed as one of the men improve the quality of games produced for next gen, he was assigned as Vice President of the Editorial Team of Ubisoft. Béland is known for being the Creative Director of Splinter Cell and it’s two decades of work at Ubisoft.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot released a public letter explaining how the recently formed editorial team will be changed due to the new allegations.

Specifically, I have decided to revise the composition of the Editorial Department, transform our human resource processes, and improve the accountability of all managers on these subjects.

In response to recent allegations, we launched a series of investigations that are being led by independent third parties. I know that many of you are eager to hear the results of these investigations. However, we must take the time necessary to ensure that they are carried out with the required rigor. When they are concluded, all appropriate actions will be taken. Should additional allegations or claims be brought to our attention, we will fully investigate those, as well.

There is a state of commotion in the industry, more allegedly victims are speaking openly against their aggressors, this has led the EVO 2020 to be cancelled.
