During a Warhammer stream held on their official twitch channel, the newest game in the long line of Warhammer 40K tactical RPG games. The franchised is based on the tabletop miniatures manufactured by Games Workshop. The game itself will be Developed by Complex Games in partnership with Frontier Foundery with a lengthy story penned by New York Times bestselling author Aaron Dembski-Bowden.
The full title of the game is Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate- Daemonhunters. If that name sounds a bit long, the franchise has had many spin-offs, sub-franchisees, and expansions over the years. Warhammer 40,000 is itself a spin-off of the Warhammer series.
According to the official press release:
Armoured in faith and shielded by devotion, the Grey Knights’ very existence is rooted in mystery: the possession of any unsanctioned knowledge about their secretive brotherhood is punishable by death. In Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, players will experience the ruthless, merciless combat of the 41st millennium, following the journey of these elite warriors.
The game tasks players will feature turn-based combat as well as multiple classes to choose from.
Warhammer 40K first appeared in video games in 1992 with a game simply called Space Crusade. While Space Crusade was based on the franchise it shares its name with, that franchise is set inside the Warhammer 40K universe.
Similarly, the Space Hulk and Epic franchise would see release in the same timeframe. Warhammer 40K would not see a game branded off of it until Chaos Gate in 1998. While over 20 games would release in the franchise this is the first sequel to the game that started it all.
PC gamers can expect the game to launch at some point in 2022. A full cinematic announcement is planned for August of this year.
