Gearbox Publishing, in partnership with Compulsion Games, will release We Happy Few physically and digitally for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 10, 2018.
We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who have their own set of not-so-normal rules.
Designed to be replayed, the game doesn’t let you reload your save if you die. Instead, you’ll restart in a brand new, procedurally-generated city and be able to customize the world to your liking.

“Compulsion Games also revealed that the final version of the game will have a full-length story campaign played as three different characters and more than 250 unique encounters. “Each of these three playable characters has their own particular strengths – and their own dark secrets. As they attempt to survive encounters with their drug-addled former neighbors, old friends, ex-lovers, and even each other, they may dig up some long-buried secrets of Wellington Wells itself,” they added.
Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses; they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in this artificially-enthused society.
Play as three flawed characters who must contend with their own guilty pasts and connections to the mysteries surrounding Wellington Wells. Each has a unique storyline in which they interpret and react to the dramatic events around them. Hide, conform, or fight back as each of them encounters black comedy and dangerous hope as they try to make their way out of their city. Or play in Sandbox mode, and experience dozens of encounters with your very offbeat — and very English — fellow Wellies.”
