It was to be expected but here it is. The Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase has been announced. Finally, we have some dates for E3 press events so we can finally mark our Calendars. June 13th at 1PM EST Xbox promises what else but games, world premieres, and new titles for Game Pass.
Interestingly this is the first press event since Bethesda parent company Zenimax was Purchased by Microsoft. While there have been rumors of what this new partnership might mean for the industry, this is our first real chance to glimpse at this future.
Prior to this Microsoft and Bethesda held separate press events, begging the question of how a conjoined event might be structured. It is important to note that the official tweet made a point to specify both companies as part of it. It is also unclear just what this might mean for the time slot once held by Bethesda.
While specifying that games will be “First or Best” on Xbox, it has been maintained that multiplatform deals made before the purchase of Bethesda will be honored. This will include the upcoming Arcane Studio game Deathloop and Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Outside of those games anything is still possible. Some games such as Minecraft have remained multiplatform after being purchased. However a major reason to purchase a company are exclusives and the studios purchased has no shortage of titles on that front. the Hotly anticipated new IP from Bethesda Studio’s entitled Starfield has been the first rumored to have full exclusivity to the xbox.
This year is going to be an odd one when it comes to E3. Due to Covid restrictions the event was cancelled last year. While a convention will not be held this year, A free online event is planned.
