Xbox Claims Victory in UK Black Friday Sales According to Source

The Xbox family of consoles was the number one best-selling gaming system during Black Friday in the United Kingdom.

According to gamesindustry.biz, Xbox consoles were heavily discounted during the Black Friday sales period, with one of the lowest deals being the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for £110 at Tesco, which bundled digital version of popular titles that were also among the best-selling games over Black Friday (Sea of Thieves, Minecraft: Xbox Edition, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, etc.).

“More than 100,000 Xbox One machines were sole last week,” says gamingindustry.biz, citing UK retailers as information sources. “[This] is just slightly behind what the console managed during Black Friday 2018. The All-Digital version was the most successful edition of them all.”

While the Xbox One claimed victory, it barely edged out the Nintendo Switch—which had its “Lite” version available for as low as £179.99. Also according to gamingindustry.biz, “The Neon Switch with the longer battery life was the biggest selling version of the machine. Nintendo sold more Switch consoles during this Black Friday than it managed over the same period in 2018.”

The Nintendo Switch did conquer the Xbox One in terms of revenue, however, due to the console’s higher price.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 sold over 60,000 units, most gamers choosing either the FIFA 20 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare bundles. Gamingindustry.biz attributes the comparatively lackluster PlayStation 4 sales to the less aggressive Black Friday offers when compared to Microsoft.

Overall, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sales are not meeting the numbers set by previous years. The Nintendo Switch, however, has been steadily increasing in terms of sales since 2018. This is likely due to the mobility offered by the Nintendo Switch and the fact that the Switch is the newer product.
