Microsoft is reportedly discontinuing the manufacture of new Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles ahead of the launch of its next-gen console.
As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Said a Microsoft’s spokesperson to The Verge. “Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.”
Mat Piscatella, a video game industry analyst has given his opinion while adding some context in Microsoft’s decision.
In late June Microsoft potentially confirmed the existence of the Xbox Series S as a”LockhartProfiling” was found in Microsoft’s June 2020 Games Development Kit.

What it’s being rumored about Xbox Series S is that it will launch for a significantly lower price compared to its Japanese counterpart, the PlayStation 5. The console will have modest hardware compared to the Series X and would not support 4K gaming while maintaining next-gen games’ support.
The Xbox Series S is expected to be the entry level Xbox console, the all digital version of the Series X is expected to feature a more compact design and a overall lower production cost. The console would also have a discrete hardware capable of playing next gen games, while maintaining a competitive price. Lockhart would still conserve some of the key components that boast the Series X, for example, the NVMe storage device.
Xbox Series S is rumored to be announced in August, the console is said to be able to handle next-gen gaming at 1080p, some games might feature 1440p resolutions. The console is expected to retain the custom Zen-2 processor of Series X.
