Xbox Game Pass is “Completely Sustainable” Affirms Spencer

In an appearance on the Dropped Frames Podcast, Phil Spencer affirms that Xbox Game Pass “completely sustainable” at its current cost, while reassuring that Microsoft has no plans for increasing the price of the subscription anytime soon.

“I say there’s no plan for us to do anything like that. We like the value that Game Pass is today and from a business model it’s completely sustainable the way it is and I mean that,” Spencer said.

Spencer also revealed that some developers have doubted that Xbox Game Pass could be a place where AAA game developers release its biggest projects. Spencer affirms that Xbox Game Pass growth is completely sustainable for the same 10 USD.

“I’ll be honest, there are developers that have some concerns, and my inbox is there, and I have conversations with a lot of those developers asking what are our real long-term goals?” … “You know we get questions about ‘hey, is this just some kind of go secure a bunch of players and then rack the price up to a new level?”

Is important to mention that Spencer recently suggested that a new tier of the Xbox Game Pass could be added soon, however, the new tier would not add premium benefits in regards to the game’s available, but the mentioned Platinum tier could bundle a streaming stick for HDTVs.

During the same Dropped Frames podcast, Spencer also emphasized the importance of Xbox Game Pass, the service does not only benefit the player, but the developers can see its project highlighted after its launch, something that gives the game exposure to “millions of players.

Xbox Game Pass is one of the biggest selling points for the next-generation of Xbox consoles, the subscription-based service will add EA Play on November 10 subscribers at no extra cost. Game Pass Ultimate also adds Project xCloud, the cloud streaming solution that allows to stream games on Android, PC, and consoles.

Certainly, Game Pass will also become even bigger after the acquisition of Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, id Software, Arkane Studios, Machine Games, and Tango Gameworks. The first glimpse of how big Game Pass will be is the release of Doom Eternal on the subscription service back on October 1st.
