Xbox Live Rebranded as Xbox network

Xbox Live Gold service is getting a different name, the premium multiplayer online service will be called Xbox Network.

In late 2020 The Verge reported rumors about the potential rebrand along with some extended perks for subscribers, however, an Xbox spokesperson denies the plans to do

“The update to ‘Xbox online service’ in the Microsoft Services Agreement refers to the underlying Xbox service that includes features like cross-saves and friend requests,” says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge.

“This language update is intended to distinguish that underlying service, and the paid Xbox Live Gold subscription. There are no changes being made to the experience of the service or Xbox Live Gold.”… “We have no plans to discontinue Xbox Live Gold at this time. It is an important part of gaming on Xbox today, and will continue to be in the future.”

As explained by Microsoft, the Xbox Live service has been rebranded to Xbox Network to not confuse players with the extended perks of Xbox Live Gold.

It is worth mentioning that Xbox Live Gold gives access to discounts and two free games a month. Xbox tried to raise the price of the service earlier this year but it ended up abandoning the idea in less than 24 hours following the huge backlash from subscribers.
