During a recent live stream, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, forecast that Xbox Series X will not only beat the PS5 in performance, but will cost $400 at launch, PlayStation is aiming at a $500 retail price.
“From what I’ve seen, Sony’s gonna have to charge $500 for the PS5,” … “Microsoft has a big balance sheet. If they want to cut the price by $100… they will. I think they’re waiting to have Sony blink first, and then they’ll reveal the price and release date.”…”Very likely sometime in November, very likely $400, and fans are going to get a lot from their $400.”
The live stream was hosted by Geoff Keighley, Peter Moore, Corporate V of Microsoft IEB division was also present, he explains how price is a crucial stepping stone for the success of the next gen Xbox.
“Does Satya [Nadella] say, ‘this is the opportunity right now, as we did with Xbox 360, lets get in, let’s price it right, let’s get the right content there. Let’s take advantage of this global crisis right now because the thirst and appetite for these online experiences has never been greater. Let’s dare Sony to come in at $500.’ If I’m back in my old job, that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
PlayStation might face a really tough time due to the COVID-19, reports from Bloomberg reveals that, Sony was not able to meet the schedule on their plans for the current fiscal year, a very important meeting was planned to take place at Tokyo to approve business plans related to the PlayStation 5. COVID-19 travel restrictions “have prevented Sony engineers from flying to China to direct final adjustments before assembly plants go into mass production.”
There is also the reported rise in the hardware parts that are essential for the PS5. PlayStation and Xbox are facing huge obstacles ahead of the original Holidays launch date. Phil Spencer claims that Microsoft doesn’t have a plan for a 2021 launch, adding up the pressure for Sony. Analysis expect Sony and Xbox to sell their next gen devices at a loss in order to compete with each other. Surely, Xbox learned their E3 2013 lesson, Microsoft on that event revealed the retail price of the Xbox 360, on the same event Sony confirmed that the PS4 would be $100 cheaper. Xbox apparently is ready to return Sony the favor.
