Speaking with The New York Times, Microsoft’s Head of Investor Relations, Mike Spencer anticipates a shortage of Xbox Series X|S consoles until June 2021.
At a recent Jefferies Interactive Entertainment Conference, Xbox’s CFO Tim Stuart announced that the company was expecting supply shortages for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S during the Holiday season and Q1 of 2021. Spencer’s claims are following Lisa Su’s recent statement in which she explains that AMD’s shortages could affect the GPU and CPU of next-gen consoles.
‘It‘s fair to say that the overall demand exceeded our planning, and as a result, we did have some supply constraints as we ended the year,’ AMD’s CEO says. Shortages for the company’s processors are expected to continue through the first half of 2021 as AMD’s manufacturing partners continue to build capacity.”
reports that Xbox Series X|S sold around three million units, PlayStation 5 has sold six million consoles. David Gibson, Chief Investment Officer at Astris Advisory claims that the shortages are in the plans of Xbox and is something desirable for the marketing team at Xbox.
“In a lot of ways, they don’t want to satisfy demand initially,” … “They want to have an ongoing gap between supply and demand. They want to have buzz and excitement around it for a longer period of time.”
Xbox Series X|S is just one of the ways that Xbox has envisioned to reach all the 2.8 billion players around the world, the video games division of Microsoft gladly announced that Xbox Game Pass now counts with 18 million subscribers. The platform has recouped the Zenixmax Media acquisition and it’s rumored that Xbox is ready to make another huge purchase.
