According to Digital Foundry’s John Linneman, Xbox Series X’s user interface is running at 1080p resolution, a significant disappointment to Linneman especially after PlayStation 5’s interface which is designed and displayed at 4k.
Well, the big problem for me, more than anything, with the Xbox dash is the low resolution. I was disappointed with Xbox One X only offering 1080p UI rendering when PS4 Pro did native 4K but for 1080p UI to continue on Series X…that’s really not acceptable to me.— John Linneman (@dark1x) October 15, 2020
Certainly, Xbox’s decision to present the main menu of the most powerful console to ever reach the hands of players in 1080p is a tough pill to swallow for fans of team green. Being that said, it’s hard to speculate or to guess why the designers at Xbox are presenting the interface at 1080p, but it’s possible that the interface is not completely optimized, it’s possible that influencers and journalist who got an early preview of Xbox Series X had a version of the software that will not be the one installed on the system at launch.
It’s also important to mention that Xbox One’s UI was recently updated, the team at Xbox wanted to tease Xbox players with the same UI that will be present in an Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, it’s also possible that the version that Linneman saw it’s just the Xbox One version of the interface running via backward compatibility.
According to Xbox, the Xbox Series X’s user interface is refined and boast new features and functionalities:
