Major Nelson announced today that Xbox Insiders can now test Dolby Vision Gaming on their Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Dolby Vision is designed to give games a significant graphical boost with “full-spectrum visuals.”
According to Dolby, the technique “unlocks the most realistic and lifelike visuals the game has to offer, with brightness, contrast, color, and depth that goes beyond even traditional HDR games.”
The software is an automated process, players won’t have to adjust brightness or contrast sliders to get the perfect image, games will look brighter, sharper and offer a better contrast between light and dark areas.
According to Dolby, Xbox Insiders will need to check if their monitor is updated with the latest firmware to support Dolby Vision. The feature will not be available on all TVs. Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will also get a new enhancement that allows for better HDR gaming when the system is connected to a Dolby Vision-capable TV.
Microsoft is working closely with TV manufacturers to deploy the new technique on as many TVs as possible.
Here are Dolby Vision’s key details
Unleash your imagination with ultravivid colors: Deep rich colors pop off the screen, transporting you to lush magical forests to desolate war zones.
Say goodbye to adjustment sliders: Dolby Vision games automatically map to your Dolby Vision display as you play, so you’re always seeing the full picture.
