According to Venture Beat‘s Jeff Grubb, Hideo Kojima may have signed a deal with Xbox handling the publishing rights for its next big project.
PlayStation revealed Abandoned new survival cinematic adventure coming exclusively for the PlayStation 5, but the internet got it all wrong thinking that Hideo Kojima was involved with the project and he was conducting a similar disinformation marketing campaign as he did with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
The biggest piece of evidence I have that Abandoned is not a Kojima joint is that Kojima is in talks with Microsoft about publishing his next game, according to a source familiar with the matter. And yes, that statue on Phil Spencer’s shelf was referencing a potential deal with the legendary developer. I cannot confirm if Xbox closed the deal yet, but my understanding is that Kojima is the focus of a Microsoft plan to leverage Japanese talent.
Hideo Kojima
has teased that his next big thing is already in development, however not much has been revealed at Kojima Productions. Fans are impatient and there are several rumors that Kojima and Konami were discussing the possibility to produce a Silent Hill Remake releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
Kojima Productions teased the development of a Silent Hill game, but apparently, the idea was scrapped and Kojima’s involvement in the game ended.
Phil Spencer has stated that Xbox is working hard with Japanese developers, the involvement with Japanese studios is key to expanding the Xbox brand to Asia.
“We want to be a platform of choice for these games. I am proud of our progress over the past 4 or 5 years. During E3, we have a strong presence of Japanese games on stage. We know that we are not a Japanese manufacturer, we know that we must work to rebuild a climate of trust with Japanese designers.”
