Xbox’s GM of Marketing Addresses Inside Xbox Controversy

General Manager of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg admits that the marketing team “set some wrong expectations” about yesterday’s Inside Xbox, the company is now facing some backlash from fans who are rightfully upset about being promised next-gen gameplay.

“Had we not said anything & just shown May’s Inside Xbox show like we did last month, I suspect reactions might have been different,” Greenberg tweeted last night. “Clearly we set some wrong expectations & that’s on us… we appreciate the feedback & can assure you we will take it all in & learn as a team.”

Certainly, the big mistake was misleading fans, Xbox’s decision to create such absurd hype when there are no competing events is beyond any reasoning. All the announcements and reveals that took place during May’s Inside Xbox were in fact well received by fans, what the audience disliked  was the lack of actual gameplay. The controversy is just a matter of fans lured to see what’s the Series X capable, watching an half an hour show of just teaser trailers.

Inside Xbox May 7 was announced by Jerret West, Chief Marketing Officer at Xbox, he affirmed that ‘gameplay’ would be revealed, something that did not happen.

Greenberg’s apologetic response to fans continues on Twitter by promising more information about the Xbox Series X and its games soon, similar to what Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Creative Director Ashraf Ismail explained after seeing the negative feedback from fans. It seems that Xbox has lost momentum, promising that eventually fans will see the gameplay is an obvious statement, now, June’s Inside Xbox might be opaqued by the allegedly scheduled reveal of the Sony PlayStation 5.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer said “Proud of the teams for putting the show together in challenging production times. Stay safe, can’t wait to see what you and the team are up to next”.
