After some speculation last year, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was officially announced during the February Nintendo Direct. It was showcased as the final trailer of the event, capping of an already stuffed direct with a brief look at what fans of the Nintendo RPG franchise can expect.
The trailer opens with a man playing the flute, setting him up as one of the protagonists of the story. From there we transition to scenes of war, a staple for many JRPGs, complete with many glowing swords and gigantic mechs.
After that, we get to see some gameplay with the man from the intro exploring a large field. He can also be seen running up a metal platform with a sprawling vista behind him. We also get multiple scenes of additional characters being controlled by the player as well, exploring different terrains with each being impressively large, a trait fans of the series have most likely come to expect.
Other noticeable things during the trailer include the impressively large enemies that explore the world, as well as a segment with the party swimming in what appears to be a large ocean before a scene of a player-controlled boat is showcased in a body of water itself.
Previously, several rumors had suggested the game was close at hand. Voice actor Jenna Coleman let slip during an interview that she believed they were making a third one and that she would be asked back for it. Then, only weeks ago other rumors slipped that the game was in “The final stages of development.”
For fans that have been awaiting this title since the last game arrive in December of 2017, it looks the wait is almost over. While the game was not given a specific release date, it was stated that the game will arrive in September 2022. It will once again be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.
