After being asked about the possibility of a Xenosaga HD Collection via Twitter, Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco tweeted a reply saying the plan would be difficult due to the idea’s failing of a profitable market analysis.
The tweet has left fans disappointed, some calling it a bummer, others posting sad cat eyes, and a few deciding outrage is the correct response to something that was never real remaining unreal. However, there are also some gems who appreciate the honest answer, praising Katsuhiro Harada for telling them the truth, as many feel developers and publishers are afraid to provide answers that center around the potential for a game’s profit.
Xenosaga is a role-playing video game series developed by Monolith and published by Namco (now Bandai Namco). The first game—Xenosaga Episode I—released on February 28, 2002, with its most recent release—Xenosaga Episode III—having released on July 6, 2006. The franchise is part of the Xeno metaseries, which has since gone on to include the Xenoblade Chronicles, developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo.
The Xenoblade Chronicles, also shortened to Xenoblade, is a series of science fiction action role-playing video games. The first game in the franchise was published for the Nintendo Wii on June 10, 2010, with the latest installment—Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna — The Golden Country—having released on September 21, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch.
While fans of the Xenosaga series are disappointed at the current impossibility of an HD Collection, others believe the market analysis conducted that determined the product would fail was not done via a survey that reached gamers. The perception is if Bandai Namco had done a proper survey, the market analysis would not have conveyed failed profitability for Xenosaga HD Collection.
